Once and For all is the second book in the Winds of Fire series. We follow Sheetal’s journey almost a decade later from her arranged marriage with Rakesh. This time she has an eight year old son, Yash to protect from her dysfunctional family. The writing is gripping and the plot is compelling. It will keep you on edge while also dealing with complex and difficult subjects like domestic abuse, alcoholism, depression and trauma. Sheetal is a relatable character who you can’t help but root for and I enjoyed seeing her grow into a strong woman inspite of the ordeal she faces as a daughter in law of the Dhanraj family. We get several characters’ backstories in this one which made a lot of sense as to their relationship with Sheetal and why they behave the way they do. A deeply moving and thought provoking read. I am eagerly waiting for Book 3 after this one ended on a cliffhanger. Make sure to read Dynasties before picking this one up. The book revolves around Sheetal who gives into her parents’ wishes of an arranged marriage into an affluent family and marries Rakesh. Told from Sheetal’s PoV, it gives us an insight into the traditional Indian culture where as a new bride she is faced with challenges - a dominating mother-in- law, secretive husband and shrewd sisters in law. Almost all the characters are unlikeable and make life difficult for Sheetal. I wasn’t impressed with Sheetal as she comes across as undecisive and immature in the beginning but ultimately she finds her voice and I couldn’t help but cheer her on. Anju Gattani’s writing is simple yet incredible as she showcases the complicated nature of Indian traditions, the contrast between the wealthy and poor families and the evolution of relationships and love. Along with vivid descriptions of the setting and the characters, the author also touches on important topics of mental and physical abuse and addiction and I was completely immersed in the story. This was a really entertaining family saga and I am now looking forward to finding out how Sheetal’s life pans out in the second book of the series. Once and For All is the second book in the Winds of Fire series by Anju Gattani, and again, I couldn’t pull away from this book. We follow Sheetal in her miserable arranged marriage to Rakesh almost a decade on, from book one. Their son Yash is now eight years old and is away at boarding school - Sheetal sent him there to help protect him from the violence, poison and disfunction of life at home in the mansion, much to Rakeshes dislike. But Sheetal has much more heartache around the corner in this book. As some villains turn into victims and secrets come out into the light, we follow this brave woman on another leg of her journey to freedom. This book covered much of a few characters’ backstories, which I really enjoyed reading about, and which made so many things make sense in relation to certain characters’ behaviours and why they are like they are. I did have a feeling about one of Rakeshes’s secrets, which I was right about, but I loved how the author brought it out into the open in this instalment. The ending was not only pulsepounding but a complete shock, and I’m desperate for book 3 to continue this series. Anju Gattanis writing has gone from strength to strength so far between these two rollercoaster rides of books, and I’m so excited for book 3. . . QOTD. I received a gifted copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via the author. Dynasties is the first book in an Indian family-saga duology. I love reading about different cultures, and this is definitely one of my favourites so far. In this book, we follow Sheetal - a twenty-two year old beauty whose family has chosen an arranged marriage for her into a wealthy prestigious family; the Dhanraj. Sheetal doesn’t want to marry Rakesh Dhanraj. She wants to marry the man she’s fallen in love with, but her family forbids this as he is from a poor family. Sheetal fights against the marriage, but her plees fall on deaf ears, and she is forced to marry Rakesh or be cast out from her family for bringing them shame. My heart broke for Sheetal and how little regard her family had for her feelings, concerns, and safety. After her horrendous wedding night, Sheetal feels lost and alone. Her husband is always busy, her mother-in-law is poisonous, and one of her sister-in-laws has it in for her. Sheetal finds a comfort in her art and a kind of love grows between her and Rakesh, but he is hiding things from her, and her suspicions rise more and more throughout the book and she finds herself incorporated within a Web of lies, deceit, sacrifices and betrayals. Who can she turn to and who can die trust. This book brought so many emotions to the surface with Anjus beautiful and compassionate storytelling. Sheetal is a strong female lead, and I loved seeing her strength, growth, and maturity at the end of this book and am jumping straight into the second book right now. This book is perfect for fans of Danielle Steel, Sidney Sheldon, Bridgerton, and the Dynasties TV show. . . . QOTD.
